Pre & Post Treatment Instructions for PRP
To ensure you are fully equipped for your PRP (platelet-rich plasma) therapy sessions at our Glasgow clinic, read our before and after instructions below.
I. Before the PRP treatment
- Avoid aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Voltaren and other anti-inflammatory medications. You may use paracetamol as needed before the treatment.
- Prescription medications should be taken as prescribed.
- You may continue other hair loss treatments, such as laser treatment, Minoxidil, or Finasteride.
- Colouring your hair up to 7 days before the procedure is okay.
- Minimise alcoholic consumption before your PRP treatment.
II. On the Day of the PRP treatment
- Shower the morning of your treatment and wash your hair thoroughly using your regular shampoo. Do not apply sprays, gels, or other styling products to your hair.
- Increase your fluid intake on the day of the treatment.
III. After the PRP treatment
- Avoid scratching or touching the scalp as much as possible.
- Do not wet your hair for at least 3 hours after your treatment.
- Do not use hair products for at least 6 hours after treatment.
- It is normal to experience bruising, redness, itching, swelling, and soreness that may last 2-4 days following your treatment. If you experience any pain or discomfort, you may take paracetamol. Try to refrain from applying ice to the injected area.
- You may have a bruise at the blood draw site.
- In rare cases, skin infection may occur, which is easily treated with an antibiotic. Please contact our office immediately if you notice unusual discomfort.
- Use a clean pillow and pillowcase after your PRP hair loss treatment.
- Avoid resuming Minoxidil for 12 hours.
- Avoid vigorous exercise for a day after your treatment.
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms, and swimming for 2 days after treatment.
- Avoid aspirin and other anti-inflammatory medications for 3 days.
- Avoid hair colouring and straightening for 3 days.
